Viewing Audit Data for Process Platform Artifacts

This topic describes the procedure to view the audit data for Process Platform artifacts.

An artifact is an object or a system resource that is used during software development and maintenance.

Auditing involves maintaining records of the administrative actions, such as the details of the type of action and the artifact on which the action was performed, who performed the action, and when the action was performed. Therefore, the audit information enables you to track the actions on the artifact and rectify the defects, if any, found due to these changes. An audit action, for example, can be restarting a service container, installing a CAP package, publishing a BPM, invoking a Web service operation, adding a user in LDAP, changing an XML document in the XML Store, and so on.

To view these audit actions, you can use the Audit Viewer task.

Note: You must have the Audit Viewer role, which is an internal role, to view the audit data.

  1. On CUSP > My Applications, click (Audit Viewer).
The Audit Viewer window appears, displaying the artifacts with the audit data in a tabular format.
  2. In the Search group box, you can specify the criteria for the artifact search using the following options:
    • Select an artifact type from the Artifact Type drop-down list.

Note: Only those artifact types that can be audited are displayed in the Artifact Type drop-down list.

    • Provide text in Artifact for a wildcard search.

      Note:
A wildcard character can be used to represent one or more characters. You can use the following two wildcard characters in your search term:

      • % (percentage) - % matches any number of characters, even zero characters.
        For example:
        • gar% matches 'garry', 'garrett', 'gargoyle', or anything that starts with the characters 'gar'.
        • %te% matches 'textual', 'context', and 'text123'.
        • tex% matches 'text' but not 'monotext'. In the same way, %tem finds 'system' but not 'temporary'.
      • _ (underscore) - The underscore ( _ ) matches exactly one character.
        For example:
        • _ean matches all the four letter words ending in 'ean', that is Dean, Sean, Mean.
        • to_ matches 'top' and 'tow' but not 'today'.

Warning: Using wildcard characters may have a negative impact on the search performance.

    • Provide a user name in Performed by or click to select an organizational user. The Organizational Users dialog box appears, displaying the list of organizational users. Select the user who executed the action on the artifact. Alternatively, you can click to search for the users in the list and then select it. The name of the user is displayed in the Performed by field.
    • Click for From Date and To Date respectively to select the start and end dates during which the action on the artifact has been performed. In the calendars that appear, select the start and end dates that are in turn displayed in the From Date and To Date fields.

Note: By default, From Date is filled with the date one week ago at midnight.

  3. In the Space group box, you can specify the criteria for the search using the following options:
    • Select the Shared option if you want to view audit data, which is logged at the shared level.
    • Select the Organization option if you want to view audit data, which is logged at the organization level.

      • Select the All option if you want to view audit data from all the organizations.
      • Select the Specific option if you want to view audit data from a specific organization. The organization name can be selected using the the zoom dialog box or provided directly in the box provided.

Note: The Shared and Organization options are only visible in the System organization.

  4. In the Actions group box, select the actions using which you want to search.

Note: The actions are specific by the artifact type; therefore, if an artifact type is not selected from the Artifact Type drop-down list in the Search group box, it is not possible to filter on the actions. When an artifact type is selected, the corresponding actions are displayed in the Actions group box.

  5. In the Status group box, select the status on which you want to search using one of the following options:
    • Incomplete - The action was started but never completed; for example, there was a system failure.
    • Complete - The action was completed successfully.
    • Failed - The action was not completed successfully.
    • Not Authorized - The action was not completed as the authorization was inadequate.
  6. Set the maximum number of artifacts and actions to be read. When the Max Number of Artifacts and Max Number of Actions are set to 100 respectively, then a maximum of 100 artifacts and 100 actions by artifact are read and displayed in the Audit Viewer window. The lower these numbers, the better the performance of reading and displaying the audit data.
  7. Specify the way the audit data is presented. Select the Group Actions by Artifacts option to group the actions by the artifacts. For example, all the service containers on which actions such as start, stop, reset, and so on have been performed can be viewed. You can click each service container to view who performed the action, which action was performed, and when it was performed.
Note: If the Group Actions by Artifacts check box is not selected, then only the table actions are displayed sorted in the descending order on date and time. You can view who performed the action, which action was performed, and when it was performed, sorted on date and time, with or without a filter.
  8. Click Search. Refer to Artifacts Audit Information for more information on artifacts on which, matching audit actions have been found.
  9. In the Artifacts Audit Information section, select an artifact row in the Artifacts table. You may do this if you have selected the Group Actions by Artifacts option. If you have not selected the Group Actions by Artifacts option, then the Actions table is displayed directly. All the actions based on the search criteria are displayed in the Actions table.
  10. To view the input data for an audit action, select the audit action row and click (Show Action Input).
  11. To view the artifact in a pictorial format, click (Show Artifact). This option is available only if you have selected the BPM or Decision Table artifact type from the Artifact Type drop-down list in the Search group box.

    Note:

    • The graphical view of the published artifacts is displayed only if the Debug Process Models option is enabled.
    • To view the graphical view of artifacts (BPM and Decision Table) of non-system organizations from System organization, the System Administrator must also have Administrator role in those organizations.

The audit data for the Process Platform Artifacts is viewed.

Note: If Web gateway auditing is enabled, the Web service calls that fill the rows are audited too, and will be in the incomplete state. Therefore, the Web gateway artifact is displayed when you search for incomplete records. Once the Web service calls are completed, no records are displayed.
